Myopia management

Myopia or nearsightedness is an eye condition when a person can see objects that are closer but have difficulty with objects that are far away. It happens when the light doesn't reaches your retina which results in light being focused in front of the retina. There are different ways by which the progression can be reduced however it can never be reversed. Typically among kids the treatment is mainly effective as kids eyes are still developing therefore their prescription can be maintained without having their eyesight being worsened.



Common symptoms of myopia

  • Blurry vision when looking at distant objects

  • persistent squinting

  • Headaches

  • Eyestrain


When to see a doctor?

As soon as you notice that you or your kid is experiencing the common symptoms mentioned above you should be seeing you optometrist. AT YYC optometry our doctors recommend using lenses for kids glasses which have DIMS technology that help to slow down progression of myopia.


Myopia Treatment:

Myopia control treatment is mainly effective for children aged between 6 to 16. There are specific lenses for glasses that help slow down the progression of myopia in kids. There are also orthokeratology lenses that can help with some patients. The treatment plan has to be custom made for each patient by the doctor. Therefore it is important to consult your doctor for this.
